Pharmacy Voice has responded to the General Pharmaceutical Council’s consultation on initial education and training (IET) standards for pharmacy technicians.
Pharmacy technicians play a vital role in delivering care and helping people to maintain and improve their health, safety and wellbeing. To deliver new service models consistently and maximise the potential and impact of community pharmacy in the ways described in the Community Pharmacy Forward View, we will need to develop and enhance people’s existing skills and build the confidence of community pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff to use them.
Our response highlights some areas of the standards which we believe require further consideration, particularly relating to the language or terminology being used and the level at which some of the proposed learning outcomes have been set. We would like to meet with the GPhC to work through these points further.
